A new species of higher plant spores, Geminospora shumilovii sp. nov., is described in the Upper Devonian Frasnian sections of the Middle Timan’s Tsilma River basin. Its stratigraphic range (the Sargaevo and Semiluki horizons) and palaeogeographical distribution (traced in coeval deposits of the central regions of the Russian Plate) have been established. Appearing in the palynological assemblages of the Brusnichnaya Formation (Sargaevo Horizon), the new species is also observed higher up in the stratigraphic section: in the palynological assemblages of the Kraipol Formation of the Domanik Horizon. The described species was also encountered in a palynological assemblage of Semiluki age in the section of the Pavlovsky quarry (Voronezh) at the same stratigraphic level. Due to its narrow stratigraphic range, G. shumilovii can serve as a marker for the deposits of the Sargaevo and Semiluki horizons across a significant territory of the Russian Plate.
