The Dalny Tyulkas section belongs to geological monuments of nature and is a global stratotype of the lower boundary of the Artinskian Stage of the Ural division of the Permian System of the International Stratigraphic Scale (GSSP or "golden spike"). Deposits in the Dalny Tyulkas section are represented by layered fine-grained carbonate and siliceous-clay-carbonate rocks (limestones, marls, and siliceous mudstones) with interbeds of volcanic tuffs and rare interbeds of clastic limestones. Lithofacial analysis of the Dalny Tyulkas section deposits included description, sketching and photographing of outcrops, diagnostics and photographing of rocks in sections with identification of lithofacial types of rock (LFT). To determine the mechanism of transport of clastic material structural and textural features of rocks were studied. In the Dalny Tyulkas section, 4 types of lithofacies are distinguished in the border between Sakmarian and Artinskian deposits: LFT1 – micrite radiolarites representing background sediments of the deep – sea shelf and depressions (hemipelagites), LFT2 – detrital lithobioclastic limestones with foraminifera, crinoids, and bryozoans brought by grain flows caused by storms to the deep-sea zone (tempestites), LFT3-ash tuffs with alevritic quartz in an iron-coated clay matrix, formed from suspension in the calm-water basin, LFT4-siliceous-calcareous mudstones – sediments of the depression zone of the Pre-Ural trough. Irregular alternation of the identified lithofacial rock types in the Dalny Tyulkas section reflects the features of sedimentation in deep-water environments. Paleogeographic conditions for the formation of the Sakmarian-Artinskian deposits in the Dalny Tyulkas section correspond to the near-platform slope of the Pre-Ural trough with periodic bioclastic removal from the reef side by grain and debris flows caused by storms and earthquakes.
