The Upper Vendian Salikhovo Formation of the Volga-Ural region is an important lithostratigraphic horizon for interregional correlations, and the presence of oil and gas manifestations allows us to consider the formation as an interesting object for hydrocarbon exploration. A fairly complete section of the Salikhovo Formation proposed as a reference section was opened by borehole 4 Asly-kul. The results of studying the Salikhovo Formation sandstones (borehole 4 Asly-kul) on a Tescan Vega 4 Compact scanning electron microscope made it possible to clarify the composition and morphology of rock-forming and accessory minerals, to identify previously undiagnosed minerals of rare earth elements (allanite) and ore (goethite, titanite and cobaltite). Received data will allow in the future to identify additional correlation criteria and detail the composition of the source rocks of clastics for the Salikhovo Formation’s sandstones.
