Summary:

A detailed foraminiferal zonation composed of four zones is proposed for the Upper Visean of Russia. The sequence is based on the evolutionary lines Endothyranopsis compressa – End. crassa – End. sphaerica and Ikensieformis proikensis – I. ikensis – I. tenebrosa. Foraminiferal assemblages of this sequence for borehole 401 Syzran of the Volga-Urals subregion of the East European Platform are presented. This section served as the basis for the zonal foraminiferal scale of Russia. Holotypes of some foraminifera species come from this borehole. Zonal foraminiferal assemblages from the thin section collection of Borehole 401 Syzran are illustrated and the distribution of the stratigraphically significant species in the section is shown.
