Summary:

The study of brachiopods of Bashkirian (Sterlitamak) shikhans has been going on for more than 180 years. A great contribution to the study of this group in the Southern Urals in the 19th century was made by: S.S. Kutorga, F.E. P. Verneuil, A.A. Keyserling, V.I. Meller, F.N. Chernyshev. In Soviet times, brachiopods of shikhans were studied by: N.P. Gerasimov, E.A. Ivanova, N.N. Fotieva. F. F. von Kvalen, who collected extensive collections of brachiopod fauna in the vicinity of Sterlitamak in the middle of the 19th century, made an enduring contribution to the knowledge of brachiopods on shikhan. Currently, this work is ongoing. New data on the taxonomic diversity of brachiopods of shikhans supplement the previously compiled summaries. The Sterlitamak shikhans serve as a source of stone material for the study of the Early Permian brachiopod biota and its determination at the modern systematic level, in comparison with similar time deposits of other regions of the globe.
